Podcaster Dedan “Rod” Rodriguez is a US Army Reserve Warrant Officer with over 15 years of military service. His professional experience consists of business development, entrepreneurship, counseling, and intelligence analysis. He has a BA in Intelligence Operations and a MS in Mental Health Counseling. He is currently a host of the Military Matters podcast under Stars and Stripes, the long-standing American military newspaper. On August 23, 2020, Military Matters podcast released an episode where Rodriguez interviewed Luis Elizondo, former point main of the Pentagon’s UFO program AATIP - Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program. During the episode, Elizondo spoke about his AATIP work and his struggle within DOD to share what program learned. Rodriguez also reached out to the Office of the Secretary of Defense trying to get additional clarification on the DOD's August 2020 announcement on the establishment of Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force. The interview was declined. However, Rodriguez received answers to his questions over an email. The language of response is similar to statements that were provided to other journalists and researchers in the past. Still, it is valuable to archive all those exchanges from a historical perspective. Here is the exchange between Rodriguez and the Office of the Secretary of Defense published in the Military Matters episode at 34:16 minute mark. MILITARY MATTERS (Rod Rodriguez): Has the UAP task force confirmed the existence of nonterrestrial craft? OSD: No, we have not made that confirmation. The investigation of unidentified aerial phenomena, UAP sightings, is ongoing. MILITARY MATTERS (Rod Rodriguez): What misconceptions would you like to clear up about the nature of the UAPs and the UAP task force? OSD: Incursions into our ranges and operating areas by any aircraft identified or not identified are problematic from both a safety and security concern. Safety of our air crews is paramount. Unauthorized and unidentified aircraft pose a risk to flight safety. Additionally, it is vital we maintain the security of our operations. Our aviators train, as they fight. Any intrusions that may compromise the security of our operations, tactics or procedures is of great concern. The department has established a UAP task force to gain knowledge and insight into the nature and origins of UAPs, as well as their operations, capabilities, performance and/or signatures. The mission of the task force will be to detect, analyze, and catalog UAPs, posing an operational threat to US national security and avoid strategic surprise.
